How this FAQ is organised

The questions are grouped in five themes: choosing your stove, installation, use and pellets, maintenance and warranty, and price and ordering. For full specifications, see the Ambelys pellet stove page.

For homeowners outside France

Prices shown on this site are French prices including 20% VAT. If you live in the UK, Ireland, Belgium, Switzerland, Luxembourg or elsewhere, taxes, delivery and local regulations differ. Contact us and we will prepare a quote for your country.

Frequently asked questions

Choosing: which Ambelys version should I choose?

All versions share the same firebox, so performance is identical: 6 or 8.8 kW, 92% efficiency, 38 dB or less and a 30 kg hopper. The choice is about style and space. The round version measures 554 mm in diameter and 559 mm deep, the octagonal 530 × 528 mm and the square 530 × 529 mm, all 1,014 mm high. Each comes in black, white or burgundy, giving nine combinations. Try them in the online configurator.

Choosing: can I change the look of my stove later?

Yes. The cladding of Ambelys is interchangeable, so the stove is upgradable: you can later change the casing, both its shape and its colour finish, on the same stove. The change is carried out by a professional; just ask us.

Choosing: how quiet is Ambelys?

Ambelys is measured at 38 dB or less, roughly the level of a quiet room. The fan turns at only 300 rpm, the feed screw runs on ball bearings and you do not hear pellets falling into the burner. That makes it comfortable in a living room or an open-plan space. Read more on our quiet pellet stove page.

Choosing: what makes Ambelys a low emission stove?

Its patented double combustion. Unburned gases and fine particles from the first flame pass through a second flame at 380 to 800 °C, depending on power, and are burned inside the stove. Tested to EN 16510-1:2022 and EN 16510-2-6:2022, Ambelys emits 10 mg/Nm³ of fine particles, 175 mg/Nm³ of CO at 13% O2 and 72 mg/Nm³ of NOx, against Ecodesign limits of 20, 300 and 200 mg/Nm³. See how double combustion works.

Installation: can Ambelys go in a house with mechanical ventilation?

Yes, this is what its room-sealed design is for. Ambelys draws its combustion air through the flue, not from the room, so it does not compete with mechanical ventilation and does not create cold draughts. It has a CSTB technical assessment and a vertical concentric 80/120 flue outlet on top (80 mm inner, 120 mm outer diameter). More on the room-sealed pellet stove page.

Installation: what clearances are required?

The minimum distances to combustible materials are the same for all three versions: 5 cm at the rear, 20 cm at the sides, 20 cm for the side radiation area, 120 cm at the front and more than 75 cm to the ceiling. The floor distance is 0 cm and the test requires no floor protection, but national or local rules may still apply. Your installer will check them on site.

Use and pellets: which pellets should I use, and how long does a full hopper last?

Use wood pellets compliant with ISO 17225-2 and store your bags in a dry place, as damp pellets burn poorly. The hopper holds 30 kg, or two 15 kg bags. At full power (8.8 kW), that lasts about 17 hours, which is roughly 1.8 kg of pellets per hour at maximum output. At the 6 kW setting, consumption is lower and the hopper lasts longer.

Use and pellets: is Ambelys an economical pellet stove to run?

Ambelys is designed to make the most of every bag. With 92% efficiency, most of the energy in your pellets becomes heat in the room, and about 95% of each pellet is burned, leaving very little unburned residue. Because the stove is self-regulating, it only burns what it needs to keep the room at the right temperature. Your actual consumption over a season depends on your home's insulation, the climate and how you use the stove.

Use and pellets: is Ambelys self-regulating, and how do I control it?

Yes. Ambelys adjusts its heat output by itself according to the room temperature, so you do not have to keep changing the setting. You can control it with the mobile app over wifi, the remote control or the colour touchscreen. Wifi and remote maintenance are included as standard, so a trained technician can diagnose a problem remotely if needed.

Maintenance and warranty: how much cleaning does Ambelys need?

Very little. About 95% of each pellet is burned, so there is very little ash and unburned residue. A three-sector airwash keeps the glass clean for days, and a dry cloth is enough to wipe it. As with any pellet stove, we recommend an annual service by a professional, along with the flue sweeping required by local rules.

Maintenance and warranty: what does the 15-year warranty cover?

Ambelys comes with a 15-year warranty on the heat exchanger, plus 10 years on the structure and 3 years on the electronics. Remote maintenance helps identify issues quickly, and the stove is designed and manufactured in France by Schulhof Energies. Learn more about our company.

Price and ordering: how much does Ambelys cost, and what VAT applies?

In France, prices including 20% VAT are €6,000 for the round version, €5,820 for the octagonal and €5,640 for the square (€5,000, €4,850 and €4,700 excluding VAT). Schulhof Energies sells the stove without installation and does not install flues, so the standard 20% VAT rate applies. Outside France, contact us for a quote for your country.

Price and ordering: are there grants or subsidies?

Possibly, but eligibility depends on conditions. In France, schemes such as MaPrimeRénov' and CEE generally require the equipment to be supplied and installed by an RGE-certified company, so a stove bought on its own is normally not eligible; check france-renov.gouv.fr before ordering. Other countries have their own national programmes with their own rules. Check your official government website or ask us, and we will help where we can.

Price and ordering: how do I order, who installs the stove, and what about Vision?

Configure your stove in the online configurator to receive a personalised PDF quote. Schulhof Energies supplies the stove only and does not install flues: a qualified installer of your choice checks the position, flue route, clearances and 230 V / 50 Hz supply, then installs and connects the stove. Installers who would like to work with Ambelys are welcome to contact us. For delivery outside France, please contact us to discuss your project. Vision, our second model, is planned for 2027 and is not on sale yet.
